Prompt: Jealousy (sort of)
She had heard about him and Zizes breaking up. I mean, she knew about everything going around this school. Well, she would’ve noticed anyway, since the humongous girl wasn’t in Glee anymore. At least now she could actually see what was going on in front of the choir room.
She texted him, that Friday night.
‘’Sup Puckerman. What’s your lame ass doing right now?’’
‘’Nothing. Just playing a game of Halo.’’
Something felt wrong; he never played Halo alone. Mario Kart, maybe. But not Halo. Not on a Friday night, anyway. She decided then to go there. He was probably okay; but whatever, they had the habit to be there whenever that kind of stuff happened. Not in a cheesy emotional way. They’d usually just hang out in each other’s room. Sometimes adding a little something-something when it was needed.
‘’Don’t move Imma be there in a sec. Get ready to get your ass kicked at your own game.’’
She came in by his bedroom window. He didn’t even bother to turn his head, simply pointed on his bed and said: ‘’The controller’s there.’’ Others may have thought this situation was weird, but it was nothing but usual to them. They had snuck in each other’s bedrooms for as long as they could remember. And contrary to most of the McKinley High students might think, not only to get it on. Somewhere along the way, it ended up that they would sometimes simply spend time with each other. The videogame part was rare, San rarely spending her time for that. She’d play a game or two with Puck when it happened that she’d feel like it. Not that she’d let anyone know that. Some things stayed between the two of them. There were things other people probably wouldn’t believe anyway. But they didn’t take any chances.
They were playing their second game now, Santana wanting a rematch of the first game they had played, when suddenly Puck looked away from the TV screen and turned to the Latina girl.
‘’ San, I need you to tell me something,’’ he stated.
‘’Mmh, what?’’ she answered, not looking away from screen. She hoped he wasn’t going to ask any relationship questions or some kind of shit like that. As if she could actually helped him with that. She mentally snickered.
After a second of hesitation, the boy asked tentatively:
‘’Why do you always go all Lima Heights on all the girls I go for…? It’s not like we’ve been together since the beginning of sophomore year.’’
What the heck? Where did that even come from? Santana thought. This was weird. Why was he acting all serious all of a sudden? She almost would’ve preferred him asking her about Zizes… She shrugged before simply saying:
It was a fact. It wasn’t even questionable. It was just the way it was. He was hers.
Still, Puck asked again: ‘’…Why?’’
She shrugged once more:
‘’Because you’re mine.’’
‘’But..how come?’’ he insisted.
‘’Okay, what is up with the pointless questions? You’re not five anymore,’’ she shot, slightly annoyed.
‘’…Just tell me,’’ he said, keeping his voice firm. ‘’And I’ll leave you alone.’’
The girl didn’t want to. What the heck was his problem? Since when did they even talk about this stuff? She got more and more annoyed, and took that opportunity to blow up a poor guy’s head in the TV screen. She finally sighed, resigning herself to answer him.
‘’ They weren’t good enough for you,’’ she said. ‘’No one can keep up with your badasseness, Puckerman. Even you know that,’’ she then added, shrugging and trying to light up the mood.
She tentatively looked up at him to see his reaction. He was staring at the floor, lightly frowning. She stared at the floor in her turn, before barely whispering:
‘’I…I just hated seeing you with them, okay.’’ As soon as the words escaped her lips, she regretted it. Why the heck were they talking about feelings anyway? She only hoped he hadn’t heard her. The Halo background music was the only thing they could hear for a few seconds, and the Latina thought he might not have heard her after all.
‘’Then who would you have not minded, then?’’ he suddenly asked, calmly.
‘’Me,’’ she blurted out instinctively, without even assimilating that he had heard her earlier. There was a flash of recognition in her eyes as she realized what she had just said. She tried to shrug it off, mumbling incoherent words in which the only one that was slightly discernible sounded like whatever, and going back to the game.
‘’San,’’ the boy said, demanding the girl’s attention. She didn’t react, though, and simply stared at the screen.
‘’San,’’ he said again, a little louder this time. She still didn’t react, doing as if he hadn’t said a thing and stubbornly making her video game character walk into a new room.
‘’…Ana?’’ he asked one last time, softly. She knew he was serious when he started calling her Ana. She sighed, capitulating. She knew she couldn’t just go on as if nothing had just happened. She slowly turned her head, when she suddenly saw that he was only a few inches from her face. Puck didn’t leave her any time to react and gently brushed his lips against hers. It only lasted a few seconds, and yet she felt like her heart must have beaten at least a thousand times. It was almost better than that hot make-out session they were used to having before having sex. Almost.
